Fine Art Insurers, Title Insurers, and Loss Adjusters
We work with fine and decorative art insurers and loss adjusters to address questions related to changes in an object’s or painting’s condition. We examine whether these changes are a result of inherent vice (the innate properties of the materials chosen by the artist), the work’s environment including storage and display climates, and any conservation/restoration treatments to the work. We are happy to provide our data, comprehensive reports, and expert testimony to projects where the nature of a loss is being actively challenged or contested. We also assist with title insurance questions, where the identity of a work from, for example, a historic photograph, needs to be confirmed in comparison to an extant work. We also help to identify appropriate conservation firms and conservation treatments based upon a greater understanding of the type of damage sustained in the work and the materials that comprise the work.
